History

After leaving academia and working for a nonprofit for 2 years, Marilyn decided to launch her own consulting business. To begin Marilyn worked through grant writing services to connect with potential clients as an independent contractor. A year later she added a second grant writer to assist with edits and writing. The addition of the second writer allowed Totally Written to expand its services. Initially Marilyn continued to work through sites to connect with clients. As clients learned about the extent of Totally Written's experience and knowledge the recommended Totally Written to other nonprofits in their own networks. Totally Written expanded again adding a person to help with administrative tasks, web design for clients, and the creation of graphics and reports for clients. Totally Written again expanded in 2023 with a third grant writer as we increased the number of clients. In the 4 years we have been in existence we have helped more than 40 nonprofit and for profit organizations with grants and nonprofit development.

Our Process

How we view strategic grant writing

Some agencies have a dart board approach to grant writing – write as many grants as you can and see what sticks. This approach is both time-consuming and costly. Our approach is to work with you to identify the areas that you need funding, areas you want to grow and how those areas blend with your mission, visions, strategic plan, and staffing. Once we have worked together to identify these areas Totally Written begins to develop a strategic grant writing plan with you for your organization. And now the writing begins!
